Our group
The people who rock the porous media research.
Physicists, engineers and modelers who like to watch things happen.
Leadership
Getting the grants and keeping the lab operational

Principal investigator
Assoc. Prof. Yaniv Edery
Heads the PMV lab. A physicist who hand-waves partial explanations, but with excellent students who prove him wrong. Loves his family, science, experiments, coffee, and beer (see AI illustration done by a former student for details). Did a B.Sc. in physics and oceanography (Hebrew University), an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Hydrology (Weizmann Institute), and a postdoctorate in the soft matter physics lab at Harvard University.

Postdoctoral researcher · Technion
Satyaki Kundu
Studies how porous rock remembers its loading history, using strain-field correlations to detect irreversible deformation. Ph.D. in physics on criticality and metastability near first-order phase transitions (IISER Kolkata).

Ph.D. student
Evgeny Shavelzon
Studies reactive transport in heterogeneous porous media by numerical simulations. M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (Tel Aviv University) and B.Sc. in Aerospace Engineering (Technion), specializing in computational mechanics. Outside science, he plays, composes and performs music.

Ph.D. student
Debanik Bhattacharjee
Works on microbial biophysics in multiphase pore networks, combining simulation with experiments. M.Sc. (University of Alberta) and B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (West Bengal University of Technology).

B.Sc. in Materials Engineering and Physics (Technion). Previously managed the Technion BizTec entrepreneurship accelerator.
M.Sc. student · Energy Engineering
Moisés Duek Kalach
Studies fluid displacement in porous media and what controls underground hydrogen storage, using microfluidic models with varied pore structure and wettability.

M.Sc. student
Tsur Sofer
Models how sponges take up dissolved organic matter, with a mass-transfer model built on sponge morphometry. Co-advised by Guy Ramon and Gitai Yahel.

Together
Science over lunch.
The best ideas in the lab tend to show up at the table. New students are welcome to pull up a chair.

Come and see it for yourself.
We are always looking for M.Sc., Ph.D. and postdoctoral researchers. Not the smartest, but the ones with the most grit: those who deal with endless failures for that one sweet success.
